Clay Refractory Bricks
Fire clay bricks are silico-aluminous refractory materials with an Al₂O₃ content of 35%–45%. They are primarily made from kaolin, formed into shape, dried, and then fired at a high temperature of 1300–1400℃. During the firing process, mullite crystals are formed. With a refractoriness of 1690–1730℃, fire clay bricks are classified as weakly acidic refractory products.
Classification
Fire clay bricks can be categorized into four types: ordinary, dense, low-creep, and thermal shock resistant, covering various grades with an Al₂O₃ content ranging from 25% to 45%. According to application scenarios, they are divided into three categories: those for blast furnaces, hot blast stoves, and glass furnaces.
Key Characteristics:
Fire clay bricks exhibit excellent resistance to acidic slag and acidic gas corrosion, but have relatively poor resistance to alkaline substances. They feature good thermal shock resistance: in the temperature range of 0–1000℃, their volume expands uniformly with increasing temperature, with a linear expansion rate of 0.6%–0.7%, which is about half that of silica bricks. However, their refractoriness under load is over 200℃ lower than that of silica bricks, and volume shrinkage occurs when the temperature exceeds 1200℃.

Metallurgical Industry
In the metallurgical industry, clay refractory bricks are mainly used in equipment such as blast furnaces, hot blast furnaces and glass kilns. Clay refractory bricks for blast furnaces can withstand high temperatures and corrosive atmospheres to protect the furnace structure; clay refractory bricks for hot blast furnaces are used for the lining of hot blast furnaces to ensure their normal operation; large clay refractory bricks for glass kilns are used in glass melting furnaces to ensure stability and fire resistance at high temperatures.
Chemical Industry
In the chemical industry, clay refractory bricks are used as insulation layers for equipment such as reactors, cracking furnaces and synthesis furnaces. These equipment work under high temperatures and corrosive atmospheres, and clay refractory bricks can effectively reduce heat loss and improve energy efficiency.
Ceramic Industry
In the ceramic industry, clay refractory bricks are used for the insulation walls and roofs of ceramic firing kilns to maintain the high temperature environment in the kiln and promote the firing of ceramic products. Hard clay and semi-hard clay are used as raw materials for the manufacture of daily-use ceramics, building ceramics and industrial ceramics.
Building Industry
Industry In the building materials industry, clay refractory bricks are used to make cement kilns and glass melting furnaces.
