Silicon Carbide (SiC) heaters are essential high-temperature heating components widely used in industrial furnaces and laboratory heating systems. Featuring excellent thermal stability and high heat resistance, SiC heaters serve as reliable heating solutions for various high-temperature processing scenarios. To ensure safe operation, avoid equipment damage and extend the service life of SiC heaters, operators must follow standard usage precautions in daily work.

First, standardize wiring and startup for all SiC heaters. Never connect SiC heaters directly to mains power. SiC heater elements have high resistance at room temperature, which drops sharply as temperature rises, causing strong current surges that may burn out components. It is necessary to use a matched SCR power controller or variable transformer for gradual voltage boosting. For cold startup of idle SiC heaters, control the heating rate within 5℃ per minute and avoid full-power operation to prevent thermal shock and element cracking.

Second, control the operating temperature and working atmosphere of SiC heaters. Standard industrial SiC heaters support a maximum safe temperature of 1550℃ under normal air conditions. Long-term overheating accelerates surface oxidation, greatly shortening the service life of SiC heaters. In reducing atmospheres with hydrogen or carbon monoxide, keep the working temperature below 1350℃ to protect the surface silica film from corrosion and prevent premature failure of SiC heater elements.

Third, conduct moisture prevention and preheating for SiC heaters. Newly installed or long-unused SiC heaters easily absorb moisture, which leads to internal cracking during fast heating. Before formal operation, dry SiC heaters at 80℃ for 2 hours to remove residual moisture completely. Spare SiC heaters should be stored in dry and ventilated places to avoid damp aging and performance decline.

Finally, reinforce daily maintenance and mechanical protection for SiC heaters. Made of brittle ceramic materials, SiC heaters cannot withstand collision, extrusion or violent vibration during installation and operation. Keep electric terminals clean and tight to avoid arcing and local overheating. Regularly check the resistance stability and connection status of SiC heaters, and replace aging parts in time. Standard maintenance effectively ensures operational safety and stable performance of SiC heaters.
